The snow leopard, also known as the Ounce, is a large cat that lives in the high rocky mountains of Central and South Asia. Snow leopards are the only big cats that call the cold deserts of Asia home. These deserts are also known as the third pole because they contain ice fields with the largest reserves of freshwater outside the northern and southern polar regions. Snow Leopards feed mainly on sheep, ibex and goats. Thick fur protects it against freezing cold temperatures but its beauty means that many animals fall prey to poachers. That’s why the snow leopard is an endangered species. A special feature is its tail which, like the snow leopard from schleich® WILD LIFE, is nearly as long as its body.
